Arusha. It was joy as the Catholic Church building which was bombed on May 5, leading to the death of three people, was officially opened yesterday.
Hundreds of worshipers from Arusha and other
parts of the country converged at the church during the event graced by
the Vatican Ambassador to Tanzania Francisco Padilla.
The Papal Nuncio and other church leaders survived
the deadly grenade attack on the rainy Sunday morning of May which
shocked many people and injured more than fifty, some critically.
There was tight security of armed police at Olasiti and its neighborhood, where the church is located.
The Vatican envoy, in his speech given in both
English and Swahili, implore Tanzanians and worshipers in general to
preach peace and harmony.
Arusha regional commissioner, Mr Magesa Mulongo, said that measures had been taken to improve security around all prayer houses.
Archbishop Josephat Lebulu said, due to fear of attacks, security must be tightened.
